Analog Work

I moved from a digital camera to an analog one during lockdown. A digital camera offers many advantages as a photographer. It allows to capture more pictures and to see them directly after taking the shot. However, for me, it turned out that those advantages became a drag to my approach in photography. Indeed, I used to have more than 900 pictures on my sd card at the end of the day. Most of them were simply worthless. Having the opportunity to take the same shot a hundred time made me work with less thoroughness.

With only 10 shots on my Bronica GS-1, the analog camera forces me to slow my process down, breathe and feel the picture I’m taking. It makes me witness the world go by around me while I wait for the instant I’m capturing. That’s when the bond between the picture and me is created.

according to me, the upside of photography is its universal language. Despite cultural differences, it is always possible to express something through pictures.

My photographs are the result of an intuitive composition. When I’m taking a shot, I’m aware of the complex relationship between colours, light and 6x7 frame to ensure that my picture is balanced.

Analog photography has given me the need to improve my artistic as well as my technical approach of photography. The fragility and scarcity of each image made me far more engaged in my approach.
